Transfer APK files ( Android Apps ) to and from Google Drive to device

How do I transfer an APK file to my Android?
What to Know
  1. Allow your browser to install APKs by going to Settings > Apps > Menu > Special access > Install unknown apps.
  2. Then, download the APK file and open it through the app you granted permission to. Install it normally.
  3. Alternatively, you can transfer the APK file from your computer over a USB connection.

Apkmirror to get AA compatible app builds or Google Playstore

APK's are android applications, and APKMirror is a third-party alternative to getting them from the Play store. I have used APKMirror extensively and have never had a problem, but you're right to be wary installing things from third parties.

If the apk is signed and the signature is indeed from CodeWeavers then it is safe to install.

Is it OK to install arm64 apps on an 32-bit arm device? What about 32-bit arm apps on an arm64 device? Likewise, for x86 and x86_64?

Note: Up until late 2022, 64-bit OSes were backward compatible with 32-bit ones, so you should have had no issues installing APKs with 32-bit arm libs on arm64 devices. However, the Pixel 7 series and likely many future devices removed 32-bit support, so they would only be able to run 64-bit apps.

32-bit APKs installed on 64-bit devices (if your 64-bit device supports 32-bit apps) may not be as optimized, so if you have a 64-bit device, install a 64-bit APK when it becomes available, if it exists at all.

So:

  • arm on arm device: OK.
  • arm64 on arm device: Nope.
  • arm on arm64 device: may be OK, see the note above.
  • arm64 on arm64 device: OK

Same for x86 and x86_64, mips and mips64, etc.
