Outdoor Plants for a Hedge

https://theamericanhouse.com/beautiful-outdoor-plants/3/

Thuja Green Giant

This outdoor plant is our favorite and the perfect option for those who want a green garden without flowers! Thuja green giants are evergreen trees with unique leaves that make for some of the best privacy outdoor plants.

These shrubs are gaining popularity as perimeter plants because they are low-maintenance shrubs. They can cover spacious backyards and they mature close together, forming a screen fence to conceal anything inside your backyard.

Besides its top-notch performance in providing privacy, they are disease resistant and are adaptable to any soil or weather conditions. Green giants also require very little water, making them a hassle-free option.

They can quickly give secrecy to your yard without asking for frequent watering. Pruning isn’t an issue either. Just plant them about six feet apart, and they’ll grant you a concealed backyard.

Wax Myrtle

This outdoor plant, also known as the bayberry tree, is one of the fastest growing shrubs that can also resist drought, sandy soil, beach exposure, and salt spray. Live on the coast? This is the perfect solution for you!

They shoot up to about twenty feet tall since their growth rate can be up to five feet a year, so wax myrtle is an excellent choice if you need a quick fix for your medium-sized hedge.

If you do live in a beachy coastal area and you’re interested in planting a beautiful evergreen shrub or hedge, make sure you pick out some wax myrtle from your garden center.

This plant’s visually pleasing and glossy fragrant evergreen leaves will provide you with privacy all year long.

Leyland Cypress

For another fast-growing outdoor plant, give the Cupressocyparis leylandii a shot! The Leyland cypress is one of the fastest growing privacy plants that will be sure to provide you with your desired seclusion.

That’s probably why it’s one of the most popular screen plants in the United States of America. Not only does it grow roughly three to five feet per year, but it gives your backyard a pleasing, feathery evergreen that matures uniformly and symmetrically.

Leyland cypress trees are drought tolerant and tend to prefer full sun, but they can also grow in partial shade. Just plant them around six feet apart, and in no time, your yard fosters the growth of this rapidly increasing privacy hedge.

Emerald Green Arborvitae - what we have now

The Emerald Green Arborvitae, usually known as the Thuja occidentalis, is a smaller version of the Thuja green giants we talked about.

These beautiful evergreen privacy trees only grow to about eight to twelve feet, so they’re a good choice as an outdoor plant if you want to fill a tighter type of space, but you don’t need as much of the height that some of the other plants on this list do.

These trees will provide you with a private outdoor space without the hard work of regular clipping and trimming or any other work that comes with gardening.

Just plant them about three feet apart to have a coordinated, beautiful, and captivating backyard hedge to keep prying eyes away!

THE WHITE HOUSE BLUEPRINT FOR A RENTERS BILL OF RIGHTS

real-estate-White-House-Blueprint-for-a-Renters-Bill-of-Rights.pdf file

Right to Safe Affordable Housing

Renters should have access to housing that is safe, decent and affordable and should pay no more than 30 percent of household income on housing costs. Owners of rental housing and state and local governments should ensure that homes for rent meet habitability standards and are free of health and safety hazards, such as lead or mold. In addition, owners should provide services and amenities as advertised or included in the lease (such as utility costs and functional appliances) and ensure that the residential housing unit is well maintained (including common areas). Renters should face minimal barriers when applying for housing and receiving housing assistance, which includes minimally burdensome application and documentation requirements and fair and equal tenant screening. Increases in rents should be reasonable, with the acknowledgement that rents may need to increase to cover operating costs. These increases should be transparent and fair to protect against gouging.

Clear and Fair Leases

Renters should have a clear and fair lease that has defined rental terms, rights, and responsibilities. Leases should not include mandatory arbitration clauses, unauthorized terms, hidden or illegal fees, false representations, or other unfair or deceptive practices. A lease should provide a transparent policy regarding security deposits, with those deposits being appropriately sized and placed in an interest-bearing account for the duration of the lease. The lease should also provide reasonable advance notice of actions related to the unit, including notice of entry for inspection by the housing provider and significant changes to the unit. Finally, the lease terms should be written in simple and clear language accessible to the renter, and the leasing process should ensure tenants understand the terms of the lease through a plain-language briefing.

Education, Enforcement of Rights

The Fair Housing Act bans discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), disability, familial status, and national origin, including practices that have an unjustified disparate impact on a protected class. The Fair Housing Act and state and local laws should be expanded to expressly prohibit discrimination based on source of income. All renters should also be safeguarded against sexual harassment by housing providers and their staff. And survivors of domestic and dating violence, stalking, and sexual assault should not be penalized because of the acts of abusers. It is important to note that exclusion in rental markets manifests in different ways, such as through inaccurate information appearing in tenant background checks. It is essential that tenant background checks are legal, fair, and non-discriminatory to ensure renters can access housing and have neighborhood choice. Housing providers are required by law to inform applicants for rental housing why they were denied or charged more.

Renters right to organize

Renters should have the freedom to organize without obstruction or harassment from their housing provider or property manager and should not risk losing their housing because of organizing. Moreover, tenant associations should be recognized by their housing providers or management companies. A renter should be able to identify the owner of their building and how to contact them to engage in important conversations about their property. Such engagement should be a feature of a healthy and productive tenant-landlord relationship.

Eviction Prevention, Diversion, and Relief

Resolutions from these processes could include: a grace period for late rent; the ability to preserve tenancy through curing the lease violation by paying rent or correcting the violation; access to a standardized, formal dispute resolution process prior to litigation; and opportunities to meaningfully participate in a preeviction diversion program. If an eviction is filed, tenants should be given 30 days’ notice of an eviction action and the right to counsel during an eviction proceeding

https://www.hunker.com/12161628/how-to-install-ceramic-tile-on-metal

One option ?  add a roller to apply a latex primer onto the concrete.

The right thin-set mortar or adhesive has additives to keep it from becoming brittle in cold weather

Modified thin-set mortar attaches tile or stone to surfaces such as cement or concrete. The additives in the "modified" thin-set will help it withstand weathering and time. Adhesive materials like mastic or unmodified mortar do not the additives that resist water and temperature fluctuations.

A modified thin-set has more cement and polymers, helping it perform better. You can pay anywhere from $10 to $25 per 50 pounds. Depending on the tile application, 50 pounds can cover 25 to 50 square feet for a unique tile or special pavers that require a thicker application; or if you add straightforward mosaic porcelain tiles, 50-pounds can cover 200 square feet.

Another standard adhesive that is used for outdoor tiling projects is PL adhesive. It is a polyurethane-based, moisture-curing adhesive that is much stronger than ordinary construction adhesives. PL adhesive is pricey compared to thin-set, costing about $10 for a 28 oz. tube. It's best used to fix tiles that come loose or, if you are tiling a small, custom project.

Products to buy to attach tile to cement

The most common adhesive brands available in the U.S. for outdoor tiling projects include:

  • Versabond: High bond strength, all-purpose, polymer-modified mortar adheres to most surfaces; used indoors and outdoors; can also set in cold weather
  • Laticrete 254: Polymer-fortified, thin-set mortar for interiors and exteriors; useful for thin porcelain tiles, thin porcelain tile panels, and glass tiles; bonds to exterior glue plywood and concrete
  • Loctite PL Premium: This modified thin-set mortar alternative also goes by LePage PL Premium in Canada. This polyurethane-based construction adhesive works very well in all outdoor conditions. It comes in a caulking tube; it's thick—a good consistency for setting tiles.
  • I love Loctite heavy duty construction adhesive. It comes in a caulking tube

Steps to set tile on cement

  1. Clean the metal surface to get rid of any dirt, oil, grease or other contaminates. The tile will not adhere correctly if any of these are present.
  2. Apply the appropriate adhesive to the metal with the appropriate trowel (see Tips), spreading enough adhesive to cover an area that you are comfortable finishing in less than 10 minutes. Set the tiles into the adhesive, and use spacers to create a uniform grout line.
  3. Allow the adhesive to dry for 24 hours.
  4. Grout the grout lines. Mix the grout in a 5-gallon bucket so it is the consistency of peanut butter. Spread the grout with a grout float, and force it into the grout lines from multiple angles. Allow the grout to dry for 24 hours before allowing regular use of the tiled area.
  5. After the grout has cured for 72 hours, apply at least two coats of high-quality penetrating tile and grout sealer.

Homemade ice melt for driveways

https://www.rd.com/article/melt-ice-without-salt/?_cmp=readuprdus&_ebid=readuprdus1262022&_mid=557085&ehid=BBFEBA65401372E246B0C5BA79A14ADEF82F64B8&_PermHash=7d68a95d374b8f3e0bd11c4e8fd810274ea31a09cb7d246c03f14defc4611b19&tohMagStatus=NONE

This magical homemade ice melt is easy to make, too. In a bucket, combine a half-gallon of hot water, about six drops of dish soap, and ¼ cup of rubbing alcohol. Once you pour the homemade ice melt mixture onto your sidewalk or driveway, the snow and ice will begin to bubble up and melt. Just keep a shovel handy to scrape away any leftover pieces of ice. Here’s how to defrost your windshield in one minute, too.
