Blockrails - Jason Bennick - invited

Hi Jason

I hope you and your family are doing well. Looks like Blockrails is making great progress.

If you're interested I'd like to "gently" twist your arm to do a presentation at a point to the Hyperledger Public Sector Group on The challenges, threats and solutions Blockrails offers.

I'm going to start a series of sessions digital assets and security in the Public Sector space. Your solutions are a step above what others have offered so it's worth sharing what you have done.

We do a 1 hour Zoom session every other Friday at 10 am EST.

Let me know your thoughts.

Jim

Speaker offer thanks email

Thanks for offering to present Firefly at the Hyperledger Public Sector Group meeting on Friday, Sept 23rd, 10 am EDT.
Our meetings our 1 hour.
Typically up to 10 minutes to introduce the session.
10 minutes at the end for questions ideally.
40 minutes at least for a presentation / demo.
Does that format sound right?
I suspect the audience will be mixed - half technical ( at least ) and some from the business side.
I think there are great points to the Firefly solution that can fit a variety of client scenarios delivering value. Hopefully our audience will understand that well.
The format is a Zoom meeting screen share.
We record the session and post the video to our site after the meeting. We also will request a copy of any slide deck you present to share as well.

June 9th, 2023 10 am EDT: presentation - ESG and Blockchain - Mohan Venkataraman

Session - ESG and Blockchain

ESG has become central to every aspect of human and industrial activity. It's a topic for discussion in every event, webinar, summit, or conference. Companies have been compelled to act on climate change, reduce their carbon footprint and enforce policies on their upstream and downstream supply-chain partners. Chainyard's own SaaS platform "Trust Your Supplier (TYS)" enables supplier risk assessment and qualification including #ESG-related risks. Our speaker Mohan Venkataraman, recently, was on a panel at Wake Forest University School of Law, NC about the relationship between #blockchain and ESG. It caught his interest in understanding on a broader scale, things in this space.  Blockchains can help bring more trust, transparency, accountability, and compliance to ESG initiatives.

Come attend this excellent foundation session on ESG and why blockchain can help deliver ESG solutions. It’s a key focus for many corporate social responsibility programs.

US Cybersecurity opportunities, threats, programs, policies and strategies

Biden's "big three" are national cyber director Chris Inglis; CISA director Jen Easterly; and Anne Neuberger, deputy national security adviser for cyber and emerging tech at the White House's National Security Council.

Easterly broke down their respective turfs in an interview with Axios:

  • Neuberger handles the White House's cyber policy agenda.
  • Inglis develops strategies to strengthen the larger U.S. cyber ecosystem, including the private and public sectors.
  • Easterly concentrates on defending the federal government and private sector from attacks.

Senator Warren new Crypto Bill on Regulations - KYC AML

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/senator-warren-introduces-crypto-bill-171933205.html

Amid this week’s United States Senate hearings about the collapse of FTX, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Roger Marshall today introduced the Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act, which targets the cryptocurrency industry with a number of proposed regulations that critics are calling authoritarian and unconstitutional.

The proposed bill seeks to place know-your-customer (KYC) requirements on blockchain infrastructure providers and participants operating in the United States, including developers creating software for decentralized networks and even the miners and validators that support such networks.

Warren and Marshall’s bill would direct the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) to treat crypto wallet service providers, miners, validators, and other network users as “money service businesses,” per Warren’s statement, and thus require KYC for participants along with a requirement for anti-money laundering (AML) programs.

Article on Defi vs Cefi

Here are our key findings:
- Decentralised Finance (DeFi) is an important financial market development with high innovation potential.

- The fundamental conditions and mechanisms of DeFi are entirely different from Centralised Finance (CeFi), which provide a new view and a new paradigm.

- Subordinating DeFi applications to financial market regulation designed for CeFi is neither sensible nor practical. DeFi applications must be clearly distinguished from the traditional financial market and the scope of its application.

- It is not sensible to regulate the technology nor the protocol layers.
It is to be expected that even in ideal DeFi-applications, intermediaries will be present to support and service users. DeFi regulation should primarily focus on regulating those service providers.

DeFi-regulation triggers two fundamental paradigm shifts in policy:
- We must improve the education of retail-investors about DeFi — and CeFi.
- We should change the paradigm from a 100% investors protection to a system of choice for the investors, whether they want to use the services of a regulated entity, a non-regulated entity or directly use a protocol.

The study proposes the following conclusions and recommendations:

1. Contrary to how it is often portrayed, blockchain, so far, is neither transformative nor even disruptive for the public sector. We have not observed the creation of new business models, the emergence of a new generation of services nor direct disintermediation of any the public institutions involved in the provision of governmental functions.

2. Significant incremental benefits can be realized in some areas through the utilization of blockchain technologies for the provision of public services. The two main groups of benefits related to blockchain are increased security (enhancement of data integrity, immutability and data consistency between organisations) and efficiency gains.

3. Blockchain technology can increase reliability of public institutions that use it for record-keeping. Consensus mechanism validates and registers transaction in a consistent way, spotting for any possible errors or counterfeiting attempts. Constantly updated ledger is stored in multiple copies by independent nodes in a peer-to-peer network. Decentralisation is argued to provide higher security and integrity of the records than most of the centralised systems offer.

4. Blockchain technology permits both new public service delivery and interaction models, as it can create data consistency within an ecosystem of organisations and actors, beyond the traditional public organisational boundaries. Blockchain provides a way to comply with the Once-Only Principle (OOP). By removing the need for the endless copying of data and artificially connecting different back office systems, it can help span organisational IT silos in the public sector.

5. Incompatibility between blockchain-based solutions and existing legal and organisational frameworks is a major barrier to unlocking the transformative potential of blockchain. Hence, the major policy objective should be to increase technological and ecosystem maturity of distributed ledgers. Reducing incompatibility requires not only the adaptation of technology to legacy systems, but also, to a greater extent, a transformation of existing processes, organisations and structures by using the disruptive power of blockchain.

6. Finally, the study proposes a framework for potential policy steps to exploit the full potential of blockchain technology across a spectrum of growing technology maturity. The policy agenda should focus on supporting: (i) knowledge sharing between the Member States; (ii) a focused development of new pilot projects; (iii) defining security, privacy, governance and interoperability standards; (iv) the creation of blockchain foundational components; and (v) the creation of dedicated infrastructures for specific use cases of high importance for the EU

Speaker Invites

Hi Silvan

I've been following your posts and work. I'd love to have you do a presentation on ZZZZ based on your ideas and content. I can run that session in the Hyperledger Public Sector group and invite all the key Hyperledger meetup groups as well since the session is virtual over Zoom.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Hi Mohan

Hi Mohan

You're article on ESG and Blockchain is a perfect foundational article on the topic. Bad news for you though. When you write something really good and useful someone like me comes along to harass you into doing a presentation to the Hyperledger Public Sector Group and the virtual Hyperledger Meetup groups on the topic. Let me know if I've put enough pressure on you to be a speaker ? If not I can do more ... :-).

I think we could get a very strong audience if I promote it 4 weeks in advance.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks
